Analytic Functions

Def: Let f:A⊆C→C where A⊆C is an open set. The function f is said to be differentiable (in the comples sense) at z0∈A if

limz→z0f(z)−f(z0)z−z0

exists. The limit denoted as f′(z0), or sometimes by dfdz(z0). Thus f′(z0) is a complex number. The function f is said to be ***********holoorphic on A if f is complex differentiable at each z0∈A. The word holomorphic is synominous to analytic. The phrase ****holomorphic at z0 means f is analyitic on a neighborhood of z0.

Prop: If f′(z0) exists, then f is continuous at z0.

Prop: Let f,g:A⊆C→C and z0∈A. If f′(z0) and g′(z0) exists then:

(fg)′(z0)=f′(z0)g(z0)−f(z0)g′(z0)g(z0)2

Chain Rule

Let g:Ω⊆C→C and f:Ω―⊆C→C , such that f[Ω―]⊆Ω and z0∈Ω―. If f is differentiable at z0 and g is differentiable at f(z0), then g∘f is differentiable at z0 and

(g∘f)′(z0)=g′(f(z0))f′(z0)

Prop: Any polinomial p∈C[x] is holomorphic in all C, and any rational function with p,q∈C[x] of the form p/q is analyitic on all C except on the roots of q.

Prop: Let f be holomorphic on an open and connected set A, any of the following conditions is enough to conclude that f is constant.

Prop: The function exp:C→C is holomorphic on C and

ddzexp⁡(z)=exp⁡(z)

Cor: The trigonometric functions sin,cos:C→C are holomorphic on C and

ddzsin⁡z=cos⁡z and ddzcos⁡z=−sin⁡z

Prop: For any y0∈R, then the lny0:C∗→C is holomorphic on C∖{r(cos⁡y0+isin⁡y0)∣r≥0} and

ddzlny0⁡z=1z

for z∈C∖{r(cos⁡y0+isin⁡y0)∣r≥0}.

Cor: Let g:C→Aα,n, defined as

g(z)=exp⁡(1nlnαn⁡(z))

is the nth root with image on Aα,n. Then g is continuous and holomorphic atC∖{r(cos⁡(nα)+isin⁡(nα))∣r≥0}

ddzg(z)=1n(g(z))n−1

Prop: Let g(z)=zn with g:C→C is holomorphic on C, and

ddzzn=nzn−1
